The Colfax-Mingo High School realized their football field lighting system was outdated when replacement
lamps could no longer be ordered. Other problems included significant field light level decline, pole placement
and game visibility for spectators. Ed Ackerman, Colfax-Mingo Superintendent commented, “The lighting
was so poor you couldn't see the player's number from the corner of the field.”

Funding Challenges
Like many schools, budgets were tight, and the challenge of fundraising fell to the booster club. They soon learned that
acquiring funding was the most difficult aspect of the project in their small, rural community. Fortunately, in 2006 Musco
Sports Lighting launched Musco Finance®, which helped make a new lighting system possible sooner for the growing school system.
“Because of the availability of the finance package, we have been able to get what wasn't possible” said Ackerman.
Working together, the school district completed the financing on behalf of the booster club, which reduced the down payment
and interest rate.
“We understand that up-front funding can be hard to get,” explained Bob Drost, Manager-Business Development for Musco Finance.
“With our program, schools can qualify for a financing plan with payments tailored to their budget at affordable interest rates.”

Enjoying the Results
After finding a funding solution, Colfax-Mingo High School realized the multiple benefits of their new Musco system.
Ackerman remarked, “The addition of the new lights was an amazing improvement to our football facility. We didn't
realize how poor our old lights were.” Musco's SportsCluster Green™ system provides constant illumination
over the life of the lamp; meaning that the light levels on the field won't diminish over time as they do with prior
technology systems.
Also, the new lights have benefited more than just the football team. Even the band director was pleased by the effect the new
lights had on
their presentation and performance. The school had increased attendance and revenue at the games. “The difference
in how the field looks is unbelievable,” said Ackerman.
