The four structures that hold the lighting systems were designed by Musco team members in Iowa, fabricated by Valmont Industries in France, and installed under Musco supervision.

When Armenian national soccer officials and the Union des Associations Europeennes de Football — the governing body of European football (soccer) — determined that a state-of the-art lighting system was needed for the refurbishment of Republic Stadium in Yerevan, Armenia, the project became a truly international effort.

The UEFA, headquartered in Switzerland, funded the Armenian lighting project in an effort to expand the sport to other countries. Quick turnaround (just over 5 months — from date of order to final installation) and the presentation of a complete lighting package — including the ability to provide broadcast level lighting — were the favored elements in Musco’s bid for the project.

The lighting systems were designed and manufactured at Musco’s home base in Iowa. Musco team members coordinated efforts with Valmont Industries, Inc. in France to design and build the poles — each of which accepts from 62 to 94 factory-aimed and wired fixtures. Each 50-meter pole is equipped with a lift for maintenance access. Project installation was coordinated by an on-site Musco project manager, based in Hong Kong. The development of the project was managed by Musco’s United Kingdom team members. •

The refurbishment of Republic Stadium, constructed after the end of WWII, includes new roof structural elements and a new playing surface.
