Musco has provided lighting services for three of the five summer Goodwill Games, and the first winter Games in Lake Placid, New York, in 2000.

•	The Goodwill Games were founded in 1986 by AOL Time Warner Vice Chairman Ted Turner.
•	Originally only a summer event, the Goodwill Winter Games began in February, 2000.
•	Unlike the Olympics, there are virtually no preliminary rounds at the Goodwill Games.

Amid concert performances and extravagant fireworks, the 2001 Goodwill Games concluded what organizers said was the most successful event in the Games’ 15-year history. The Brisbane, Australia, Goodwill Games marked the first time the event has been held outside the United States or Russia.

One thousand three hundred world-class athletes competed in fourteen events, ranging from such traditional competitions as gymnastics and figure skating to “new age” sports like trampoline and surf lifesaving.

Musco was chosen to provide lighting services for eight events plus press conference lighting for four competition areas. Lighting multi-sport events for television broadcasts presents unique challenges. For example, lighting colored ice on an asymmetrical grid for figure skating required special adjustments.

“Their single minded focus . . . made my job of producing great pictures that much easier,” commented Jeff Coleman, technical director for the figure skating competition.

During the last few days before competition started, weightlifting and basketball were included in Musco’s lighting services when it became evident the original contractor was not able to meet broadcast requirements. •
