Musco Helps ABC and CBS Televise
The Presidential Inauguration

Musco Lighting provided what Mother Nature didn’t for the Presidential Inauguration — bright daylight.

The cold, dark, drizzly January day George W. Bush was sworn in as the United States’ 43rd President didn’t deter ABC and CBS News from reporting the event. But they received a little help from Musco Lighting to provide what Mother Nature didn’t — a bright day.

Musco has provided “daylight by the truckload” for the last three inaugurations. Musco Technician Eldie Benson noted strict security measures came first. “The Secret Service spent more than two hours checking out our equipment. They even took apart the lamps,” states Eldie.

The inauguration used a Musco Light™ unit. Thirteen lamps were aimed at the inaugural parade and two on the White House lawn.

ABC News Lighting Director Mary Quinn was especially pleased with the broadcast: “It looked great — I heard a commentator at MSNBC remark, 'You may think it’s daylight, but it’s dark and cloudy here. What you’re seeing is actually beautiful lighting.'”

The Capitol dome was also lit by Musco for CBS’ coverage. CBS News Senior Production Manager Jay Fishkin has called Musco for years, since covering the Iran Contra hearings: “The lighting on the dome really looked spectacular — it was bright, crisp and clear. Musco has always come through for me.”
