The Sears Directors Cup honors the nations top athletic program, and for the seventh year
in its eight-year history, Stanford University came out on top in the fall standings.
The prestigious award began as a joint effort between the National Association of College Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. NACDA administers the program and Sears, Roebuck & Co. sponsors the award.
Points are given based on each institutions finish in 20 sports 10 for men and 10 for women.
Stanfords extraordinary success illustrates the great pride and high standards the university takes
in its athletic programs. Located in Palo Alto, California, Stanford University is not only justifiably
proud of its storied athletic program, but also of their facilities that host athletic events.
To assure the best sports venues, Stanford facility managers look for vendors they can count on to supply
quality products and services that provide the best value for the right price. Timely delivery and personal
attention are also factors important to long-standing relationships with suppliers.
Since 1983, Musco has been proud to provide sports-lighting solutions at Stanford. Temporary services were
used extensively at special events, including Super Bowl XIX. And, permanent lighting systems are now installed at eight facilities.
Specifications required lighting systems to blend in with natural surroundings as much as possible. Poles were
painted a custom color over galvanized steel. Pole locations were carefully considered to take advantage
of the natural screen provided by nearby trees.
University officials were concerned about protecting nearby residents from glare and spill light. Light control
was also required for adjacent fields and major thoroughfares. Musco designed lighting systems to minimize
light trespass using a combination of Level-8 and
Total Light Control options.
Were very satisfied with Musco, said Dave Schinski, Director of Athletic Facilities and Capital Planing.
