Located in Osaka, Japan’s third-largest city, Utsubo Tennis Center welcomes guests from around the world. When parts for its existing HID lights were no longer available, facility leaders knew it was time to upgrade to an LED system, starting with the stadium’s center court. The new lighting would need to create an environment suitable for hosting large tournaments, like the Toray Pan Pacific Open and the Davis Cup, without disturbing residents of neighboring apartments with spill light or glare. The new system would also need to be cost effective and, ideally, utilize the stadium’s existing wiring.
Leaders at Utsubo Tennis Centre spent 10 years comparing and contrasting the floodlighting at other tennis facilities. They ultimately chose Musco and its TLC for LED™ technology, due to the system’s superior performance and Musco’s experience lighting other major tennis arenas including Wimbledon’s Centre Court and Arthur Ashe Stadium, home of the US Open. Musco’s system was retrofitted onto the stadium’s light towers using their existing wiring. The factory-aimed luminaires improve visibility for players and fans by producing the desired light levels on the court, while its patented visoring technology prevents glare or spill light from affecting neighbours. For added peace of mind, Musco’s parts and labour warranty eliminates all maintenance costs through the year 2031.
“Overall, I am very satisfied with the product. We chose Musco because its lighting was very considerate of both players and spectators. It’s very easy to see and very easy to play, and at the same time, the stadium looks cool because of the small number of luminaires. We are also satisfied with the smooth communication with MLJ and the construction company, the content of the product warranty, and the fact that the burden of running costs has been reduced due to low power consumption.”
