While special effects lighting and light shows are becoming more common at professional and college sports events in the U.S., many major stadiums in the U.K. and Europe have waited on making the transition. When West Ham United FC decided to include special effects technology as part of the new field-of-play floodlighting system being installed at London Stadium to celebrate the Rainbow Laces campaign, club leaders wanted to enhance the overall entertainment experience without losing the traditional, historical “feel” of matchday that its fans—among the most passionate in all of European football—love and expect.
Having opted for Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ system for the new field-of-play floodlighting at London Stadium, West Ham was familiar with recent special effects installations the company completed in partnership with Stadium FX. The club decided to move ahead with the project. Musco installed custom-built mounts and infrastructure for moving spotlights and coloured RGBW luminaires throughout the seating bowl. Since the installation, West Ham has dazzled audiences with custom-designed light shows, while also preserving the traditional matchday feel at London Stadium.
“We’ve really enjoyed working with Musco to bring our matchday activations to life at London Stadium. With 62,500 supporters packing out the stadium at home fixtures, our pre-match shows are an integral part of the matchday experience for West Ham United supporters.”
