Global Container Terminal Deltaport

The Challenge

Known as the “Gateway to the Pacific,” GCT Deltaport is Canada’s flagship container terminals. With its existing high pressure sodium lighting system reaching the end of its useful life, the company decided to upgrade to more efficient LED port lighting. Project leaders were able to meet stringent lighting standards for safety, but were also excited to reduce the facility’s energy usage and environmental impact.

The Solution

GCT partnered with Musco, with whom it had worked on multiple projects including lighting Deltaport’s Intermodal Rail Yard Expansion Project with TLC for LED® technology in 2016. Terminal leaders were pleased with the results from the project and chose to retrofit the remainder of the terminal with the same durable and efficient lighting system. The system approach significantly improved the efficiency of the installation within a fully-operational terminal and once installed, the factory-aimed fixtures improved visibility and safety for workers by producing clean, consistent light at the designated levels while minimizing spill light and glare. The new system significantly reduces CO2 emissions and cuts energy consumption by 39% over the previous lighting, saving GCT over $66,000 a year. And backed by Musco’s long-term warranty, GCT can be confident in the operation of the system for years to come.
