Folsom Econome Family Park

The Challenge

Made famous by Johnny Cash’s hit song Folsom Prison Blues, the City of Folsom is also home to vibrant residential neighborhoods and beautiful community parks. When the city was ready to build Econome Family Park in an expansive open area surrounded by new homes, project leaders needed a way to light the park while preserving dark nights for neighbors. They were keen to explore recent innovations in LED sports lighting and needed a system that would not only achieve the proper light levels on the athletic facilities, but also keep a tight rein on spill light and glare.

The Solution

The City of Folsom had developed a strong relationship with Musco Lighting over decades of using its metal halide technology. Pleased with the performance, controls, and warranty of Musco’s metal halide technology, city officials turned to the company to provide a solution for their first-ever LED project. Musco educated project leaders on glare measurement and conducted scans of Econome Family Park to maximize the light control afforded by its TLC for LED® system, ensuring light level requirements were met on the park’s athletic fields while preserving dark nights for neighbors. Proactive Control-Link® monitoring allows facility staff to operate the lights remotely via smartphone, and every part and all labor on the system is covered for 25 years by Musco’s long-term warranty.
