The New Orleans Saints Take a Bold Step Towards Sustainability with New LED Lighting System

On September 11, 2016, the New Orleans Saints kicked off their season against the Oakland Raiders under Musco’s LED lighting solution at the iconic Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The new system is part of a series of renovations with partner, Siemens Corporation, to further enhance the spectator experience and reduce energy consumption.

Since opening its doors in 1975, the Superdome has hosted numerous events from seven Super Bowls to five NCAA men’s basketball Final Fours.

The installation of the new lighting system provides many benefits to the Superdome:

  • Improved Visibility – Custom designed optics focus the light on the field without creating glare for players and spectators
  • Immediate Control – Instant on/off capabilities eliminate the typical warm up time associated with metal halide lamps
  • Special Effects – Creates dynamic light shows for pregame and halftime entertainment
  • Efficient Operation – Creates dynamic light shows for pregame and halftime entertainment

With the 82 percent reduction in energy consumption, combined with Musco’s unmatched parts and labor warranty, operating costs have been significantly reduced compared to the prior lighting equipment.
