“The lights that shine on this stadium go beyond match night. They’re a beacon here on Berkeley riverfront. They’re part of a historic moment that’s turning into a historic movement. Musco understands that this isn’t just a stadium, it’s a beacon of light for women’s sports.”

KC Current
Founded in 2020 as an expansion franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the Kansas City Current and its ownership group that includes Angie and Chris Long and Brittany and Patrick Mahomes were committed to being a trailblazer and culture shaker in elevating women’s sports.
In addition to striving to become the best women’s football club in the world, the Current wanted to serve as a model of how to effectively raise the bar and shine a brighter light on women’s sports worldwide. A big part of that mission was for the Club to be a beacon of community engagement and expand opportunities for youth throughout Kansas City to participate in sports and recreation.
Since its inaugural season in 2021, the Current has gone all-in on achieving its founding goals. In the 2022 season the Club earned a spot in the NWSL playoffs and advanced to the championship match, finishing the season in second place out of 12 teams. And in 2024, the Club set an NWSL record by winning 17 consecutive matches, the longest unbeaten streak in league history at the time.
The Current partnered with Musco to help accomplish its stadium experience and community engagement goals.
In October of 2022, the Current broke ground on the construction of a new stadium that would set a new standard in professional sports – the first stadium in the world purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team. Named CPKC Stadium, the venue opened in March of 2024.
Musco designed a custom TLC for LED® system with Show-Light® Pro entertainment technology for CPKC Stadium. The system features the same patented LED technology as is featured at nearly every English Premier League stadium, and with light-to-music synchronization and color-changing fixtures, fans are treated to a world-class entertainment experience.
In 2024, the KC Current sold out every regular season game after the opening of the 11,500-seat CPKC Stadium. With an undeniably galvanized fanbase and a stadium design in which no seat is more than 100 feet from the pitch, CPKC Stadium was also chosen to host the 2024 NWSL Championship match.
Another aspect of the KC Current and Musco partnership was the installation of two club-sponsored Mini-Pitch Systems™ at different locations near CPKC Stadium. The mini-pitches are part of the U.S. Soccer Foundation movement aimed at expanding opportunities for youth in under-resourced communities to enjoy the benefits of sports through high-quality facilities.
