The Challenge

Lumpkin County High School (LCHS) is committed to the relentless pursuit of continuous improvement. When LCHS first opened in 2001, leaders installed Musco’s metal halide lighting systems on its football, baseball, and softball fields. When the systems had outlived their original 10-year warranty by nearly a decade, LCHS saw the opportunity to take its facilities to the next level with new technology. Project leaders wanted an LED sports lighting system that would improve light levels, better control glare, and offer color-changing lights that can be synced to music. The new system also needed to be easy to operate and backed by a dependable warranty.

The Solution

LCHS leaders had a strong relationship with Musco and were impressed with the performance of the TLC for LED® system they recently installed on their tennis courts. Eager to extend its Control-Link® smartphone controls to their other facilities, they retrofitted TLC for LED systems onto their football, baseball, and softball fields, as well as their track. The new systems direct controlled light onto the playing areas while minimizing glare and spill light, and BallTracker® fixtures light the underside of aerial balls for greater contrast against the night sky. LCHS also became North Georgia’s first school with a full suite of entertainment features, including color-changing RGB field and accent lighting that can be synced to music with Show-Light® special effects for spectacular light shows. Every part and all labor on the systems is covered for 10 years by Musco’s long-term warranty.
