McKinney Independent School District (ISD) spent roughly eight years planning construction of its new $70 million project, which consists of a 12,000-seat football stadium that is home to three of the district’s high schools. High school football is a big part of the culture in Texas, and district leaders wanted to deliver an unforgettable atmosphere with exceptional visibility and minimized glare and spill at what would be among the biggest and most expensive high school stadiums in the country.
After visiting other stadiums lit by Musco, and looking into several lighting manufacturers, McKinney ISD determined Musco’s Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ system was the superior solution for their project. The system’s custom optics and factory-aiming help deliver cleaner, more uniform light to the field, creating superior visibility. And its patented visoring around the fixtures minimizes glare and spill from affecting the homes of neighbors, who had been concerned about the stadium’s lighting.
“We feel like our stadium’s safer because of the quality of the playing surface and the quality of the lighting. Anytime you do a project like this, you have neighbors nearby, and we had some neighbors that were very concerned about this project and worried about the quality of life with their neighborhoods. We have had zero complaints from our neighbors because of the LED lighting.”
