With over 507 acres (2 km²) of infrastructure, Los Angeles Pier 400 in San Pedro, California, is the largest privately operated container terminal in the Western Hemisphere. The terminal’s existing floodlighting was difficult to service with the system’s electrical components located at the top of the poles, and regular relamping requirements. Pier 400 staff wanted to upgrade to an advanced LED system that would reduce maintenance, enhance visibility, cut energy consumption, and save money.
As a previous customer, Los Angeles Pier 400’s operator was familiar with Musco’s solutions and confident that it would provide a cost-effective, high-performing lighting system. Leaders at the terminal opted to have Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ system retrofitted onto the facility’s existing support structures. Musco designed a solution that allows ground-level access to wires and electrical components, making it easier to perform routine maintenance. The system also increased light levels, improving visibility for workers—all while helping to accomplish the terminal’s overall project of reducing energy consumption.
