The Challenge

IKON Park recently opened a new chapter by embarking on the largest redevelopment project in its 120-year history. As women’s participation in Australian-rules football doubled in recent years, club owners planned comprehensive upgrades to make the facility a destination for male and female athletes. The stadium is the traditional home ground of Carlton Football Club and current home to the Carlton women’s (AFLW) squad. The redevelopment called for a state-of-the-art sports lighting system that would allow Carlton AFLW to play televised night games. Because the stadium is in the heart of the suburbs, spill and glare control were essential.

The Solution

The Carlton Football Club chose Musco to install a custom TLC for LED® system at the stadium. The lighting system provides clean and uniform light levels on the pitch and makes IKON Park the first stadium to meet AFLW broadcast lighting standards. Musco’s Show-Light® Connect technology enhances the fan experience by enabling the venue to host unforgettable light shows. The system not only allows for AFLW night games, but also extends the hours during which the facility can be rented to other clubs. Outside the stadium, Musco’s spill and glare control is so precise that light measurements pick up more glow from the streetlights than from the new stadium lighting. Musco’s parts and labour warranty eliminates maintenance costs for the system through 2031.
