Built in 1965, Semenoff Stadium recently underwent significant renovations to host the 2021 Women’s Rugby World Cup, which due to the global pandemic was played in fall 2022. The project required a state-of-the-art lighting system that would provide clean, uniform illumination on the field of play. Architects also needed a solution that provided exceptional spill and glare control—not only to optimize the match experience for athletes, broadcasters, and spectators, but also to comply with strict standards established by World Rugby and the government of New Zealand.
When Musco provided initial designs for the project, architects questioned whether the proposed level of spill and glare control were achievable at the stadium. Musco used its SportsCluster® system to custom-mount TLC for LED® technology onto the stadium’s existing poles, providing enhanced on-field light levels while exceeding expectations for spill and glare control. The stadium is compliant with World Rugby and New Zealand lighting standards and is equipped with Show-Light® Pro Venue special effects technology, featuring color-changing luminaires and light shows synchronized to three songs that are popular with players and fans.
