The Showdown pitted a pair of golfers from the PGA Tour against a pair from the LIV Golf tour at Las Vegas’ Shadow Creek Golf Course. Much of the action took place after sunset, and the audience included 5,000 on-site attendees as well as a global audience on TNT, TBS, truTV, HLN, and the Bleacher Report app. Because Shadow Creek does not have permanent course lighting, event organizers needed a temporary lighting solution that would provide reliable, uniform, high-quality illumination for the final 14 holes. It was important that lighting setup, operation, and teardown all be done with utmost care to preserve the well-established grounds and landscaping at the course, which is consistently ranked as one of Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest.
Event producers TNT Sports Live Events turned to Musco Lighting, a company with more than 40 years of experience in temporary and mobile lighting solutions for sports and entertainment. With a custom-designed Temporary Light-Bar System™, the event organizers, broadcasters, players, and fans received:
Organizers had worked with Musco for temporary lighting solutions during previous installments of The Match golf series and were aware of Musco’s track record of lighting high-profile broadcast events from Olympic Games to the X Games. Musco has also provided permanent lighting for numerous courses used by the PGA Tour and LIV Tour, including Omni PGA Frisco Resort and Riyadh Golf Course.
More than 300 factory pre-aimed TLC for LED® luminaires were mounted on scaffolding towers around the course. Patented optics and visoring technology virtually eliminated glare for golfers and spectators, while strategically placed BallTracker® luminaires projected low levels of vertical light to illuminate the underside of balls in flight.
Musco’s TLC for LED® technology provided accurate color rendering and appropriate light levels for broadcast.
Musco’s field technicians worked quickly and carefully, leaving the course in pristine condition for future events.
