Staged in Cleveland, Ohio, Tennis in the Land is a week-long U.S. Open Series event affiliated with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). For the 2023 event, a key challenge was to install high-quality lighting in a tough setting that would satisfy broadcast requirements and create a stage-like night environment for some of the top women’s tennis players in the world. Any lighting for the event would also have to avoid the creation of glare that could affect players and spectators.
With matches being played on a temporary court constructed in a parking lot, Tennis in the Land needed a temporary lighting solution that could overcome the location’s unique challenges. Event organizers reached out to Musco, the global leader in mobile and temporary lighting solutions, to design and implement a lighting installation that delivered necessary light levels and uniformity on the court, while accommodating for bleacher layout, court position, and overhead power lines. Musco’s lighting system was the first thing installed on-site, with the bleachers and court constructed around it. The system’s lighting, structural, and electrical components worked together for a streamlined installation process and ensured trouble-free operation and reliability.
“We were committed to staging a world-class event with Tennis in the Land, and having worked with Musco for years over the course of many successful events, we knew they would be a great partner in helping to make that happen. The quality of their sports lighting technology, their adaptability in getting the best results in a unique setting, and their overall project management were all first rate. Musco’s experience in mobile and temporary sports lighting systems really sets them apart.”
