The University of North Georgia (UNG) determined the lighting at its baseball and softball facilities was overdue for an upgrade, and as part of that project also decided to install new lighting at its newly-built intramural sports field as well. The existing system at UNG’s baseball and softball fields was nearly 20 years old and a source of concern as it was unable to meet NCAA lighting standards and required frequent maintenance, while lights were needed at the intramural field to extend practices and eliminate scheduling conflicts for students. To accomplish its goals, the university needed a custom solution that would provide adequate light levels, eliminate maintenance issues, and provide easy-to-use controls.
University leaders researched several sports lighting providers and examined the lighting system at a nearby athletic complex to determine the best solution. As a result, UNG partnered with Musco to retrofit its TLC for LED® technology at the baseball and softball fields and install the same system at the intramural field. The system achieves desired light levels for each playing surface and satisfies NCAA lighting requirements at the baseball and softball fields. The Control-Link® service allows the lights to be operated easily, from anywhere, via smartphone to extend field use and reduce scheduling conflicts for student-athletes. Additionally, maintenance concerns are eliminated with Musco’s comprehensive warranty covering every part and all labor well into the future.
