Iowa-80 Truck Stop

LED Retrofit at “The World’s Largest Truck Stop” Improves Security, Lowers Energy Consumption

Recognised as “The World’s Largest Truck Stop,” the Iowa 80 Truckstop is located along Interstate 80 and serves over 5,000 visitors every day. The facility’s owners determined that new lighting was needed to improve efficiencies and better meet the needs of its customers, without creating glare that could affect passing drivers on one of the country’s busiest interstates. Having worked with Musco on a lighting project at one of its other truck stops in Missouri, USA, Iowa 80 Group opted to partner again and have a TLC for LED® system installed at Iowa 80 Truckstop.

  • Energy consumption has been reduced 61 per cent compared to the previous metal halide equipment, cutting costs and reducing the centre’s carbon footprint.
  • Night-time travellers enjoy a safer environment at the stop, as a result of the system’s increased light levels and better uniformity across all areas intended to be lighted.
  • Drivers on Interstate 80 aren’t distracted by glare or light spill due to Musco’s patented visoring technology that minimises glare at the light source and redirects more previously wasted light back onto the complex.
