When the metal halide sports lighting system at Salt Bay golf course reached the end of its warranty coverage, facility owners saw an opportunity to install state-of-the-art LED technology that would improve visibility while reducing their overall energy costs. The ideal lighting solution would be cost-effective and provide uniform lighting on the 18-hole course and driving range, while minimising any glare that could be distracting to athletes and reducing light spill into a neighbouring wetland preserve.
The facility team at Salt Bay golf course chose to replace their existing HID lighting with Musco Lighting’s LED system upgrade technology. After testing the system on holes 1 and 6, the facility team was impressed by the streamlined and efficient installation process, as well as the uniform light levels provided by Musco’s LED luminaires. Musco proceeded with a full-system upgrade, installing 605 new luminaires and replacing electrical components while retaining the course’s 121 existing poles and structural crossarms. Visitors to Salt Bay enjoy a comfortable and well-lit round of golf, while Musco’s patented light control technology virtually eliminates unwanted glare and spill. The system reduced energy consumption by 53 per cent and is backed by a long-term parts and labour warranty that eliminates all maintenance costs until the year 2034.
