Indiana State University Brings Back Night Games, Energizes Fan Base With TLC for LED® Technology

“The Musco LED Lighting System has allowed us to hold football games at night and has allowed us to get rid of the dark spots during soccer matches. This has allowed the game day experience, and the game atmosphere, to change for both fans and the student-athletes.”

Indiana State University’s Memorial Stadium in Terre Haute, Indiana, home to the Sycamores’ football and soccer teams, had to discontinue night games a few years ago due to low light levels and dark spots from its aging lighting equipment. With the 2018 season approaching, university administrators wanted to reinstitute night games as a way to energize students and fans and revamp the game day experience, while also meeting broadcast requirements for ESPN3.

Familiar with Musco and its reputation as the industry leader from previous projects completed at the university, ISU officials chose to partner with the company for the new lighting at Memorial Stadium. Key benefits ISU realized with Musco’s Total Light Control—TLC for LED® technology include:

  • Energized Environment – The new lighting has brought new energy to ISU students and Sycamore fans, and the addition of night games is helping increase the university’s ticket sales for games and assisting with recruiting.
  • Project Management Assistance – Musco’s experienced Team helped guide the planning, design, and project management phases, taking pressure off of ISU’s staff.
  • Efficient Instant Controls – With instant on/off capabilities, ISU facility managers no longer have to wait for the lights to warm up before game time.
  • New Broadcast Capabilities – With multi-zone aiming and advanced visoring technology, harsh shadows in both end zones were eliminated, as was the yellow haze that had previously affected broadcast quality.

Additionally, after choosing to partner with Musco at Memorial Stadium the university chose to install TLC for LED on the campus’ recreational and intramural fields.
