Opened in 2004, Dubai Autodrome, a subsidiary of Union Properties, is an elite 5.39 km (3.35 mi) motorsports and entertainment circuit that hosts a variety of racing, cycling, and karting events. Designed for ultra-high speeds – with the fastest competition lap time for the Grand Prix Circuit clocked at just over 1 minute, 41 seconds – the track historically featured lighting on its main Club Circuit and karting track. As the track’s popularity grew, the facility team wanted to extend usage with a major lighting project that could maximise safety and visibility along the entire length of the Grand Prix Circuit.
Faced with a large amount of surface area that needed highly controlled light conditions, the facility owners turned to Musco, with whom they had worked for metal halide lighting on other areas of the circuit. They were also familiar with Musco’s work at other iconic tracks including Yas Marina Circuit, Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Daytona International Speedway, Bahrain International Circuit, and Losail International Circuit. To illuminate the previously unlit areas at Dubai Autodrome – known as the Oval Circuit and Hill Circuit – Musco installed its Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ system. The new floodlighting integrates seamlessly with the previously existing system, providing superior visibility and minimal glare, and allowing the facility to host night races on its entire Grand Prix Circuit. This provided a safe environment for drivers and helped to significantly increase usage and revenue at the track. The system comes with a parts-and-labour warranty that covers all maintenance costs for 10 years.
“Musco worked incredibly quickly and was able to complete the project from planning, designing, material supply, and installation ahead of time. Work was done in an exceedingly professional manner and any issues which arose were rectified quickly. We are extremely happy with the end result, which provides safe racing conditions that allow us to host events at night on our entire 5.39 km GP Circuit.”
