Built in 2012 as a primary venue for the Summer Olympics and Summer Paralympics, London Stadium quickly gained international recognition for hosting a wide array of international events. The venue needed a new lighting system that would adapt to its unique reconfigurable lower-tier bowl and long cantilevered roof, while meeting all of the distinctive lighting requirements and broadcast standards of various professional sports leagues and world-class concerts. Further, installation needed to happen in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Having installed its Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ technology at other iconic venues across the globe, it was clear that Musco was the right partner for London Stadium. It custom‑designed a TLC for LED system that meets UEFA, Elite A, Rugby, IAAF, and English Premier League standards, and features special effects controls with light-to-sound synchronization, color‑changing RGBW technology, and infrastructure for moving spotlights. Musco was able to complete installation adhering to heightened COVID‑19 safety protocols, and worked around the ongoing English Premier League season.
“As a venue we pride ourselves on giving the visitor the best possible experience, regardless of the occasion. The upgrade to LED lights allows us to do that across our multi-event calendar, ensuring we meet the highest standards of sports and concerts at the stadium.”
