Grand River Raceway is a family-friendly standardbred horseracing facility located in the picturesque community of Elora, Ontario. Built in 2002, the facility recently expanded to a 5/8-mile (1000 m) track that would enhance the local racing scene with a faster track surface, modern design, and state-of-the-art LED sports lighting. The ideal floodlighting system would maximise visibility on the course while minimising off-course spill, preserving the dark skies and tranquil beauty of the surrounding community.
The team at Grand River evaluated several providers of LED sports lighting before choosing to work with Musco, a company they knew to have lit several of Canada’s premier racetracks, including Woodbine and Woodbine Mohawk, as well as world-famous courses like Southwell and Newcastle in the U.K. Musco’s custom-designed lighting system uses Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology to provide uniform light levels around the track, maximising visibility for spectators and broadcast viewers, while custom optics and patented visoring preserves a near-perfect curtain of darkness beyond the boundaries of the course. Instant on/off functionality and easy-to-use scheduling and control features allow the facility team to host races and training sessions on a flexible schedule. A long-term parts and labour warranty ensures the facility team won’t have any maintenance costs until 2048.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s rewarding to see the hard work of our team and contractors pay off in such a significant way.”
