BB Print Stadium Mackay has established itself as a major hub for sports and entertainment since it opened in Queensland, Australia, in 2011. In its first decade the stadium hosted numerous National Rugby League (NRL) regular season matches and several of the world’s most well-known musical artists. Under new management by the Mackay Regional Council in 2023, the stadium invested in a multi-phase refurbishment project designed to attract more high-profile events and enhance the spectator experience. The plan included state-of-the-art LED lighting that would reduce energy costs, enhance light levels, and introduce a variety of theatrical lighting effects.
After a competitive bid process, Mackay chose to renew their relationship with Musco, the company that had installed its original high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting system in 2011. Musco used the stadium’s existing poles in its design for a system that uses TLC for LED® technology – delivering higher, more uniform light levels at a fraction of the energy cost. The club also re-energised the fan experience with colour-changing pole accent floodlights and Show-Light® Pro entertainment technology for custom-designed light show features and effects. The resulting light system exceeded all expectations for performance and energy savings, and is a valuable addition to the stadium as it continues to attract high-profile sports and entertainment events.
“The lighting system installed by Musco operates as predicted and provides our clients the lighting solutions they require. The power savings of moving to LED lighting have been a wonderful cost savings to the stadium.”
