Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) is Detroit’s primary airport and the busiest travel hub in Michigan. The airport’s existing apron lighting was experiencing maintenance issues, primarily with deteriorating mounting structures which was causing fixtures to be misaligned. DTW wanted to find an advanced LED system that would improve reliability, safety, and workability for employees while reducing energy consumption.
DTW was a longtime partner with ADB Safegate, a leading provider of airport efficiency solutions. It was through this relationship that DTW was introduced to Musco, another ADB partner, and its Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ system. Airport leaders opted for a TLC for LED™ retrofit, with new structural mounting and custom designed blockers that eliminate glare from the airport’s control tower. The TLC for LED™ system reduces energy consumption and provides clear, uniform lighting—creating a safer overall work environment for DTW staff.
“We decreased energy consumption by more than half, reduced the amount of fixtures, and significantly improved the lighting.”
