With Allianz Stadium, the Government of New South Wales, Australia, envisioned a facility that would attract the world’s biggest stars in sports, music, and entertainment. Located in Moore Park, a suburb of Sydney, the scale, location, and design of the new stadium provided several challenges for project architects. They needed a floodlighting system that would entertain spectators; enhance player performance and safety; and meet broadcast standards for rugby league, rugby union and association football; all while minimising spill and glare – keeping the atmosphere inside the stadium. The architects wanted a system that would blend in with stadium architecture and avoid the need for frequent maintenance on the luminaires mounted high above the playing surface.
After visiting pitches lit by multiple providers, the team at Allianz Stadium chose Musco for the company’s system performance, reliability, and reputation. Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology provides brilliant, uniform floodlighting in the stadium without spilling over to neighbours. Show-Light® Pro Venue special effects allows the venue to host spectacular light shows. Each of the stadium’s more than 300 floodlights was factory-aimed with such precision that only six needed to be adjusted after installation. To preserve clean architectural lines at the corners of the stadium, Musco designed custom mounts that allowed luminaires to “hide” along the linear path of wider support beams. The world-class facility opened in August 2022 to a busy events schedule, including several matches during FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.
