Sinwol Baseball Field

The Challenge

Sinwol Baseball Field is a community ballpark located off the southeast edge of Gimpo International Airport in Seoul, South Korea. When it was time to upgrade the lighting system on the baseball pitch, the Seoul Metropolitan Sports Facility Management Office began searching for a solution that would increase safety and playability. The ideal solution would be easy to operate and would keep more of the lighting on the pitch, minimising spill and glare that could disrupt air traffic to South Korea’s second-largest airport.

The Solution

After evaluating several providers, the management office awarded the project to Musco, the global leader in sports lighting. The team at Musco used the facility’s existing poles to install an upgraded LED floodlighting system that provides greater visibility for young athletes and community leagues. Musco’s patented visoring technology virtually eliminates light spill and glare during night games, while BallTracker® luminaires deliver just enough vertical light to help players track the aerial flight of the ball. The new system is more convenient and energy-efficient than the previous high-intensity discharge (HID) system, with instant on/off functionality and 55.4% less energy consumption. With Musco’s Constant 10™ warranty, the facility team won’t have any parts and labour costs until at least 2033.
