Located in a residential area, the newly built Frankenbach Vehicle Logistics Centre in Hesse, Germany needed a lighting system that would reduce light pollution for area residents and help support the facility’s commitment to sustainability.

To light the 1500 vehicle logistics centre, Frankenbach officials chose Musco’s Light-Structure Green® system with an LED light source because of its capabilities in directing light to eliminate off-site spill light and glare into the surrounding residential area.

Musco designed a control system which allows Frankenbach to individually dim the floodlights on the columns that are nearest to the residential properties. This allows the facility to operate these floodlights in high-mode only during times of high activity, such as loading and unloading. Operating these lights in low-mode 95 per cent of the time reduces the impact on neighbours, while significantly cutting energy costs.

The new system complements the facility’s commitment to sustainability by reducing energy consumption by 77 per cent when compared to typical floodlighting. With the long life and efficiency of the LED light source, Frankenbach expects to realise a saving of €510,000 in operating costs over the next decade.
