Sutton United FC Readies Stadium for League Promotion with
Musco’s TLC for LED® Technology
The Challenge
Sutton United Football Club (FC) pulled off one of the most important wins of its 124-year history with a victory over Hartlepool for the Vanarama National League title. The win earned Sutton promotion into English Football League (EFL) Two, which marked a turning point for the club that brought about the need for upgrades at VBS Stadium. The EFL not only required Sutton to replace its artificial turf playing surface with hybrid grass, but it also needed to double light levels on the pitch to 500 lux. At the same time, the club needed to ensure that neighbors wouldn’t be affected by spill light or glare from the new lighting at the stadium.
The Solution
Club leaders explored and examined the performance of various lighting systems before determining the clean, even light application of Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology would best help achieve their goals. Along with meeting EFL light level requirements on the pitch, Musco preserved dark nights for neighbours with vertical light-to-window values of just 0,13 lux at the nearest residence only 45 metres from the pitch. Additionally, the club gains the Control-Link™ service to easily operate the floodlights via smartphone, while Musco’s parts and labour warranty eliminates all maintenance costs through the year 2031.
