Serving two under-resourced towns southeast of Fresno, Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District is dedicated to serving the needs of the entire community. When Orosi High School (OHS) needed new baseball and softball fields, district leaders decided to turn 31 acres of land adjacent to the school into a top-notch public sports complex that would incorporate new baseball, softball, and soccer fields as well as OHS’s recently renovoated football field. To allow evening use on hot summer nights and short winter days, the complex needed energy-efficient LED sports lighting with instant on/off controls and advanced light control that would prevent spill light and glare from affecting neighbors across the street.
After comparing various LED sports lighting manufacturers, district leaders chose to once again partner with Musco, whose technology had already achieved desirable results on the OHS football field. Project leaders chose to install the company’s TLC for LED® system on the complex’s new facilities, where its custom optics and patented visoring produce the proper light levels for each sport while preserving darkness around the complex for neighbors. BallTracker® fixtures light the underside of aerial baseballs and softballs for greater visibility, and Control-Link® monitoring allows staff to turn the lights on and off instantly via smartphone. Thanks to Musco’s long-term warranty, every part and all labor on the system is covered for 25 years.
