With a storied history spanning three centuries, Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky, has long been known as an elite location for thoroughbred racing. When the park was purchased by Churchill Downs, Inc. in 2019, the new owners embarked on a multi-million-dollar renovation to elevate every aspect of the thoroughbred racing experience, including a new grandstand and events center, a new synthetic racing surface, and state-of-the-art lighting upgrades.
Having worked with Musco to light several other tracks, including the company’s namesake—famous for hosting the annual Kentucky Derby—Churchill Downs, Inc., chose to upgrade the existing Musco HID lighting at Turfway Park to Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED® system. The system provides clean and uniform light levels around the track, meets specifications for night races and television broadcasts, and includes a long-term parts and labor warranty that ensures the team won’t have any maintenance concerns and costs until 2047. The system complements the holistic renovations at Turfway Park and honors Musco’s longstanding relationship with project partners.
