Student-athletes in the Waunakee Community School District have enjoyed game nights under Musco lights for 40 years. Since the time they first partnered with Musco to light their football stadium in 1984, they’ve also relied on Musco for trouble-free, energy-saving lighting systems for the soccer field and varsity baseball diamond. When the time came to light their varsity softball field in 2023, the Warriors again turned to Musco for the best available technology, including LED field lighting and a state-of-the-art control system that would make life easier for their facility staff and new athletic director.
Waunakee Athletic Director Nick Conrad appreciates that he and his team can use a smartphone or laptop to instantly schedule and control the lights on every Musco-lit field. As with their football stadium lighting, upgraded with LED technology in 2017, the softball field is illuminated by Musco’s Total Light Control—TLC for LED™ system. The system includes integrated electrical and structural components that work together to maximize visibility, safety, reliability, and spill and glare control. DarkSky International, a third-party independent organization, completed an on-site evaluation and determined the softball field complies with DarkSky Outdoor Sports Lighting Program guidelines for protecting neighbors and the night sky. Every Musco system is at Waunakee is protected by a comprehensive parts-and-labor warranty that keeps the Warriors athletic schedule running without maintenance costs well into the future.
“Our fields get so much use by high school coaches, youth coaches, village rec, and other different parties, that it’s great for our staff to be able to turn the lights on and off from anywhere on short notice. It saves us time, and we’re not having lights sitting on longer than they need to. There have been numerous times when I’ve been home, someone calls about turning the lights on, and I can do it from 45 minutes or an hour away.”
