Wyoming is known for wide-open spaces and vast skies. When the City of Casper began thinking about upgrading to LED sports lighting, leaders were concerned that new lighting would create problems with light pollution in the night sky. After conducting lighting audits on the community’s athletic fields, they learned their aging metal halide lighting could no longer produce the light levels needed for safe play on the main baseball field at Crossroads Park. Project leaders decided to move forward with an upgrade on the field and began searching for an LED sports lighting system that would enhance safety and playability without increasing sky glow.
After looking at various LED sports lighting manufacturers, project leaders found that Musco could best meet their light control needs—as well as provide easy-to-use controls and a dependable long-term warranty. They installed a new TLC for LED® system that utilizes the park’s existing wiring and raises on-field light levels to the appropriate standards for safe play. Patented fixture visoring preserves darkness around and above the park, and BallTracker® fixtures light the underside of aerial baseballs so players can better follow their path through the night sky. Facility staff can operate the lights remotely via smartphone using the Control-Link® service, and every part and all labor on the system is covered for 25 years by Musco’s long-term warranty.
