When Paintsville High School upgraded the metal halide lighting system at its baseball field with a local manufacturer’s LED technology, it quickly discovered that the lights weren’t achieving the necessary results in terms of light levels and uniformity. Now understanding the vast disparity in how different LED sports lighting performs, schools leaders determined an upgrade to a more proven system was necessary for improving viewing and playing conditions at the field. To achieve its lighting goals, Paintsville needed an experienced manufacturer to nearly triple the light levels provided by the previous system to satisfy Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) footcandle requirements and maintain this high level of performance well into the future.
Paintsville had previously installed Musco’s technology at other school fields and was confident in the capabilities of its LED solutions. As a result, the school chose to again partner with Musco and install its Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology. The system triples on-field light levels to satisfy KHSAA standards while Musco’s BallTracker® technology targets controlled light upward to allow players and fans to easily track the flight of the aerial ball at night. Paintsville gains remote operation of the lights via smartphone through the Control-Link® service and won’t pay any maintenance costs until the year 2046 with Musco’s parts and labor warranty.
“The deficiencies created by our previous lighting system created an extremely unsafe playing field for all of our baseball programs. Our Board of Education selected Musco lighting to solve our problems based on Musco’s long history of being the standard bearer for field lighting. The new lighting is top of the line and resolves any safety issues we had previously.”
