War Memorial Field

The Challenge

Built in the late 1940s along Lake Pend Orielle, War Memorial Field hosts games for six local sports teams and includes fields for baseball, softball, and football. The stadium is also home to the Festival at Sandpoint, an annual 10-day music festival that welcomes big-name musical acts and thousands of visitors to the town each year. After decades of heavy use, the Sandpoint community agreed to raise funds to give the facility a much-needed upgrade. Along with adding new turf, the city wanted to upgrade the field’s metal halide lighting system to LED technology that would offer instant on/off controls for concerts and provide even cleaner light without disturbing the lakefront views of nearby homes.

The Solution

Sandpoint had previously installed Musco’s Light-Structure Green® system on War Memorial Field, and after investigating various sports lighting manufacturers, the city chose to once more partner with Musco. Project leaders chose to retrofit the stadium with a new TLC for LED® system, using a combination of new and existing poles. The factory-aimed fixtures produce clean, uniform light on the field, while their patented visoring and light control technology preserves darkness around the stadium for neighbors. The system’s Control-Link® monitoring allows facility staff to operate the lights instantly, from anywhere, with the touch of a smartphone, and Musco’s comprehensive warranty eliminates all maintenance costs for Sandpoint through the year 2045.
