The City of Bayamón, Puerto Rico, wanted to install new lighting at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium and Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum as part of its reconstruction project after Hurricane Maria damaged the facilities. The stadium was originally built as a baseball stadium and has been converted into a soccer stadium that now accommodates the Bayamón Football Club (F.C.) of the Liga Puerto Rico, while the coliseum hosts basketball and volleyball competitions as well as live concerts. Both facilities needed a manufacturer that could provide solutions for architectural challenges created by the previous lighting system’s support structures and enhance overall visibility and broadcast quality.
Bayamón had partnered with Musco on projects in the past and trusted the Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology’s ability to accomplish lighting goals at both facilities. Musco’s complete system approach included the design of custom mounts for the stadium that allowed fixtures to be secured to the roof of the upper deck. At the coliseum, support beams were located in front of previous lighting fixtures which had blocked light from getting to the intended areas. The new TLC for LED® system was mounted to the same support structures but the fixtures were aimed around the beams so light would no longer be blocked. Additionally, the system’s custom optics and factory aiming deliver more uniform light distribution, both improving visibility at the facilities and enhancing television broadcasts.
“The local television station congratulated us because they had no more spotting on the court during the nationally televised game. The LEDs focus around the area of competition and from goal to goal we have an even distribution of light. I’m extremely happy because my fans are happy.”
