The Challenge

Bob Lewis Ballpark, located on nearly 100 acres of donated land just outside of Asheville, North Carolina, was envisioned as an anchor for the community–a state-of-the-art baseball and softball facility for local and visiting teams. It was envisioned as a place for youth participants and their families to thrive and create memories that last a lifetime.

After several years of planning and permitting, construction began in the Fall of 2016 and Bob Lewis Ballpark officially opened in July 2018. With a total of seven baseball and softball fields, the new facility has been a welcome addition to the community. Bob Lewis Ballpark quickly became known as Western North Carolina’s premier location for regional baseball and softball tournaments. As demand began to increase, however, field use remained limited to daylight hours. The ballpark wanted to include high-quality LED lighting so tournaments and practices could run later into the evening. It needed a system that featured advanced glare and spill control as well as trouble-free operation.

The Solution

After researching LED sports lighting from various manufacturers, leaders opted for Musco’s Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ technology. The system achieves necessary light levels for college-level competition and also uses patented visoring and light control technology to ensure glare and spill light does not negatively impact surrounding facilities or roadways. Musco’s Control-Link® service provides 24/7 monitoring of the system’s performance and enables facility staff to operate the lights instantly, from anywhere, via smartphone. To ensure the facility is always ready for play for local athletes, the system is backed by a parts and labor warranty that eliminates maintenance costs through the year 2044.
