Antwerp Euroterminal NV (AET) is the largest multipurpose terminal in the port of Antwerp. When AET leaders were ready to light a new extension area of the terminal, they sought a reliable LED port lighting system that would be more energy-efficient than the high-pressure sodium (HPS) lighting system used in the rest of the terminal. Because of the terminal’s location next to a nature reserve, it was critical that any new solution also reduce spill light around the facility.
AET turned to Musco Lighting for a turnkey retrofit of its TLC for LED® system on the recommendation of a consultant and to gain Musco’s 10-year warranty. Custom optics and patented fixture visoring work together to produce the light levels needed for worker safety while minimizing spill light and glare outside the facility. Because the LED system reduced cable and transformer dimensions by 50 percent, project leaders realized their overall investment cost was lower than it would have been for HPS. Because of their satisfaction with Musco, AET leaders began replacing the terminal’s other lights row by row with TLC for LED® technology. The overall upgrade reduces energy use by 69 percent, and all parts and labor are covered by Musco’s long-term warranty.
“Musco’s TLC for LED® system enhanced the light levels within our large and complex terminal area, while also reducing light pollution and demonstrating our respect for nature. We chose Musco for their expertise and customer support, and the results speak for themselves.”
