The City of Caldwell and the College of Idaho partnered to undertake a project that would light the school’s football and baseball facilities—Simplot Stadium and Wolfe Field, respectively—for the first time in years. Both fields play an important role in many of the college’s athletic programs, and since the fields didn’t have lights, coaches couldn’t plan home games or practices at night and student-athletes had to schedule their classes around daytime sporting events. In addition to extending operating hours for both venues, the school needed the new lighting to satisfy requirements for television broadcasting and hosting postseason tournaments.
Project leaders conducted extensive research into the capabilities of new LED technology, which led them to partner with Musco and its Total Light Control – TLC for LED™ system. The new lighting allows the school to extend operating hours at each facility, creating greater flexibility for academic schedules and more opportunities for athletic training. With advanced light control and optimal light levels on each field, both facilities satisfy requirements for hosting postseason tournaments as well as meet specifications for television broadcasts. To ensure future generations of student-athletes enjoy evenings under the lights, the college gains Musco’s comprehensive warranty and won’t pay any maintenance costs for the system through the year 2045.
