Mt. San Antonio College’s (Mt. SAC) Hilmer Lodge Stadium was built in 1948 and earned worldwide recognition after the Mt. SAC Relays developed into one of world’s largest track meets. This encouraged the college to pursue a complete facility upgrade that would include new LED lighting to equip the stadium to host other elite-level track and field and cross-country competitions. School officials’ top priority was to improve light levels and visibility while minimizing spill and glare in order to satisfy the International Association of Athletics Federations’ (IAAF) lighting standards and preserve darkness for the surrounding community.
Mt. SAC had previously worked with Musco and was confident that the company’s vast knowledge of the industry and ability to customize lighting systems was exactly what it needed. Officials opted for Musco’s Total Light Control—TLC for LED® technology. The facility satisfies IAAF requirements as a result of Musco’s custom optics and factory aiming enhancing light levels with more uniform light distribution to the track and field. Additionally, the system’s patented visoring technology minimizes spill light and glare in order to preserve dark nights for homes neighboring the facility.
