Montana State University Expands Intramural Opportunities, Overcomes Spill Light Concerns with TLC for LED®
Dobbie Lambert Intramural Field sits directly in the middle of Montana State University’s campus, and school leaders decided to have new lighting installed to extend the hours of operation for student activities. In addition to providing the best possible visibility for students, project leaders needed lighting that would prevent glare or spill light from impacting the buildings surrounding the fields, including an observatory for which dark skies are critical. Having worked together on previous projects, the university again put its trust in Musco.
MSU students using the fields enjoy exceptional visibility, achieved by the system’s output of 50 footcandles and superior uniformity keeping light levels consistent throughout the field of play.
The residence halls, observatory, and other campus buildings surrounding the fields aren’t affected by spill light or glare as a result of the system’s precise light control and patented visoring around the fixtures.
University staff can control the lights instantly, from anywhere, with the touch of a smart phone, and have 24/7 scheduling and monitoring support through Musco’s Control-Link® service.
The university won’t have to pay any maintenance costs through the year 2044, with Musco’s long-term warranty covering every part of the system and all labor.
Cost-of-ownership is further reduced as a result of system’s efficiency, with energy consumption reduced 77 percent compared to if the university had opted for metal halide equipment.
